Galatians 6:9
Proverbs 10:9
Gal 6:9 says, "Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season
we shall reap if we do not lose heart". The meaning of weary is - worn out with
exertion, vexation or suffering, tired, fatigue. Most people grow weary when things
don't go their way. When a person who has no vision for his life encounters failures
and hardships in his work, he develops feelings of discouragement, unworthiness
etc., . He gets vexed of that particular work and eventually diverts from the main
line towards pursuing his own interests and desires. Most of us are driven by our
emotions (feelings). When we go to church, we get encouraged by the Word of God
and we venture to perform that implanted Word. But if we are let down by anyone
or if things don't go our way, we grow weary of doing the good that we started out
to do. During this time if someone offers alternatives, we compromise and settle
for something we know is not God's best. All this happens because we are overcome
by a weary spirit. To overcome this, like David did, we must develop the habit of
strengthening ourselves in the Lord, instead of looking for the support of other
people or looking for things to happen the way we want.
A person who is driven by a vision doesn't care whether anyone is supporting him
or not. He keeps on pursuing his vision. Jesus Christ was a man of vision. He knew
that He came to endure the cross. When His time had come, the Bible says that "He
set His face to go to Jerusalem". On the way when He was passing by Samaria, the
people there did not respond well and His disciples got angry. They asked Jesus,
"Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from heaven?" The disciples were
overcome by their 'feelings' and so they spoke according to their flesh. Our feelings
can never set us free. Performing God's word, will sets us free. Being controlled
by our emotions can destroy our life. They drive us to make unwise decisions, to
compromise for common things; and divert us from the main vision which God has given
us. Everyday we go through tough situations, we face rejection and things make us
grow weary. At these times, we need to put down our feelings and lift up the Word
high and allow the Word to take control over every area of our life.
When a sinner comes to Jesus, He gives him His righteousness
and justifies him as His son. He gives him His Word to perform with the help of
the Holy Spirit. By this, he becomes righteous day by day. If we perform 1% of the
Word which God gives us, God adds the remaining 99%, which is His righteousness.
By doing this, God covers us from the accusations of the devil and makes us stand
before Him without any condemnation. If we increase in our performance to 20%, the
remaining 80% is God's righteousness. Now if God tests us in that 20%, we will win.
We will not cry to God to help us because we already know how to work it out. God
wants us to grow everyday in this and He wants us to work with His Word.
10:9 says, "He who walks with integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his
ways will become known."
The meaning of security is: freedom from fear, apprehension, etc.., confident,
assured, guarded against or not likely to be exposed to danger; safe, so strong
or well-made as to render loss, escape or failure impossible. Many people try to
find security in money, fame, politicians etc. but the Bible says that the integrity
of a man gives him security. Integrity means, undiminished in quality, strength
or value. What we won yesterday if we maintain it today, we have integrity. For
example; in 100% if we have won 10%, the Word encourages us not to go below 10%
but to maintain it and go above 10% today. This is called integrity. The Spirit
of God teaches us to increase our integrity. He who walks with this integrity has
the security of the Lord Jesus Christ around him all the time. No man can touch
us when we have this security. Therefore, let us develop integrity in doing the
Word of God. When things go wrong, instead of growing weary, getting discouraged
and giving into negative feelings, if we just lift up God's Word and maintain a
positive attitude, in due season we will reap the harvest of God's blessings!
